Upper Hunter Country

Upper Hunter Country

We are having some lovely weather at the moment in the Upper Hunter, so why not hire a bike at the Scone Visitor Information Centre?

We have lowered our hire fee, with prices starting at $5.00 for one hour.

The Scone VIC is offering a bike hire service to visitors and locals keen to discover the town on two wheels and are encouraging people to ‘Pedal up!’

Council was successful in seeking funding through the NSW Government’s Better Waste and Recycling Program to purchase ten bicycles and ancillary equipment.

The bikes will be available for hire from the Scone VIC seven days a week, homed in a shipping container that is now a colourful artwork, created by local aerosol artists True Colourz.

Adults and children’s bikes are available seven days a week at the following rates:

$5 for 1 hour | $7.50 for 2hrs | $10 for 3hrs | $20 for full day (Centre's Opening Hours) | Family full day $50 (2 adults 2 children) | Baby seat at $10 flat rate | Helmets are included in hire free of charge (conditions apply), plus each hirer receives a free water bottle to keep.

The friendly staff at the Scone VIC can also provide you with a brochure of recommended bike rides around Scone. For more information contact the Scone VIC on 6540 1300 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Cycle to the Scone Cup… or TAFE

A new bicycle path has been created from Satur out to the Scone Race Club in time for the Scone Cup this Friday (12 May 2017).

The 2.2m wide asphalt path stretches almost 800 metres from Gray Street to Flemington Drive.

The project which will cost an estimated $100,000 is one of the major recommendations from the Upper Hunter Shire Council Bicycle Plan which can be viewed at

Bikes and helmets can be hired from the Scone Visitor Information and Horse Centre for $30 a day, or $15 an hour and $5 for each hour after that. The bike hire scheme was funded through the NSW Government’s Better Waste and Recycling Program.

The Scone VIC is open every day of the Scone Horse Festival from 9am to 5pm week days and 10am to 4pm weekends on the corner of Kelly and Susan streets.

Scone Cup Day is a half day public holiday in most of the Upper Hunter and all Council offices in Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone including libraries and youth centres will be closed from noon on Friday 12 May 2017. Upper Hunter Shire waste depots will be open normal operating hours.

Short Circuit Cancer Hunter Valley

On Sunday 23 November 2014, James Estate - Baerami is hosting Short Circuit Cancer – a six-hour mountain bike relay to raise funds for local charity CanTeen, who work to support young people whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer. It's a family friendly mountain bike event, so all you mums dads and kids, friends and corporate companies can create a team, ride and raise funds. You don't have to be a racer, just a rider!

Ride with us:

There are a few different ways you can ride with us:

  • Solo – you get to ride for six hours.
  • Create a team – if the idea of six hours on a bike solo sounds a bit tough, why not grab a few friends or family members and create a team (up to six riders per team). This way you can all ride a lap and then rest. All riders under 16 must have a signed parental waiver.
  • Juniors - Junior riders under 16 who want to create a team can register under the TEAM category. Please note all junior teams must have an adult (over 18) team leader who will be responsible for the team throughout the day. Junior teams will be required to attend a specific rider briefing on the day. If there are any junior riders who would like to participate but do not have a team, please get in touch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so we can help find you some team mates.
  • Kids ride – for younger kids we'll have a supervised trail ride during the day, motor skills course, Bike clinic and a treasure hunt at the end of the day.
  • Entry Fees:
    $50 per person
    $150 per family (2 adults, 2 children under 16)

Why don't you also make a weekend of it.

James Estate Wines will open up an area for camping on the Saturday evening and also host a Wine Tasting for those interested. The cost is $10, which will also include a guided walk on Saturday afternoon. James Estate Wines have kindly donated these funds back to Short Circuit Cancer.
