“Run for Olivia”
March markets move to Sports Complex for Family Fun Run and fundraiser A four kilometre Fun Run and community markets will be held Saturday, 11 March 2017 at the Bill Rose Sports Complex in Scone to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), an annual global event which recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The community, sporting clubs, schools and families are invited to participate in the “Run for Olivia” IWD Fun Run and help fundraise for The Olivia Inglis Foundation. The Foundation for young eventing riders was established in memory of teenager Olivia Inglis who tragically died at the 2016 Scone Horse Trials whilst competing.
At the initiative of the Scone Horse Trials Organising Committee and with the support of the Inglis family, Equestrian NSW has set up the Olivia Inglis Foundation to fund safety initiatives in the sport and provide training opportunities for young riders.
“The Scone Horse Trials Committee is very touched that the wider community has chosen to support the Olivia Inglis Foundation and would like to encourage sports and community groups, schools, pony clubs, pre-schools, families and friends to get behind this great initiative and Run for Olivia on 11 March,” said Councillor and Scone Horse Trials Vice President Kiwa Fisher. Donations can be made online via the Australian Sports Foundation at www.asf.org.au.
The Fun Run is being supported by Scone Horse Trials, Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association, Upper Hunter Shire Council, McCallum Inglis and Scone Sports Store.
Upper Hunter Shire Council is organising the Fun Run and market day which will include food stalls, live music and kids activities including laser tag and feature ‘Sparkles the Clown’.
Fun Run registration is only $5 per person or $10 for a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids under 12 years). All proceeds from registration fees goes towards the Olivia Inglis Foundation.
There are some great prizes to be won on the day for first past the finishing line as well as raffles and prizes for the participant who raises the most money through sponsorship.
