Light it up! in the Upper Hunter Shire.

Light up your business for Christmas

The big man in red is not too far away, and the Upper Hunter Shire Council is encouraging businesses across the Shire to get into the spirit by decorating their shopfronts!

All businesses and retailers in the town centres of Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone are invited to participate in the ‘Light it up’ competition for the ‘most festive’ shop front and/or window display. The competition will run from Monday, 16 November 2015 through to 6.00pm on Saturday, 19 December 2015.

The competition is open to all businesses located along the main streets and surrounding streets in Upper Hunter Shire’s four major towns. All entries must be received by close of business on Friday 27 November and should be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The competition will be judged by a panel of local people selected for their experience in marketing, brand, design and display. Judging will take place the week commencing 13 December 2015; during this week entrants will be required to leave their displays lit up until 10.00pm each night.

If you are a Facebook member you can keep an eye on what is happening in the competition by ‘liking’ the Scone Visitor Information Centre’s Facebook page. Just log into your account and search for ‘Scone Visitor Information Centre’.

The winners for the four townships will be announced at the Scone Neighbourhood Centre’s ‘Christmas in the Park’ event by Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor, Wayne Bedggood. This event will be held in Elizabeth Park, Scone on the evening of Saturday 19 December 2015.

The four contestants that win the competition will go home with a lovely hamper full of Upper Hunter goods.
