Need some ideas to entertain the kids these school holidays? Check out the list below for some great experiences and activities to do these holidays. Everything from wildlife and farm animal tours to outdoor and indoor activities and events happening in the Upper Hunter.

Devil in the Wild Tour – 2 and ½ hour tour of Devil Ark in the Barrington Tops. This once in a life time experience features a tour of the brand new Devil Ark Centre, complete with state of the art displays. The tour will then take in some devil enrichment; a special form of feeding which encourages wild behaviour, interaction with joeys born at Devil Ark earlier this year and a rare chance to become immersed in the devil's natural habitat by entering huge free range enclosures to witness wild devils in truly wild conditions. Feel like you’re in Scotland at the Aberdeen Highland Games – Tartan will be everywhere on Saturday the 7th of July. Don’t miss the spectacular grand parade of the pipe bands and clans, the music and dancing, tug-a-war competition and other novelty games and crowd favourite, the Tartan Warriors, in the strong man challenge! Test your skills at GJ’s by the Lake - The place to be these school holidays is GJ's By the Lake! Lake Liddell Recreation Park just outside Muswellbrook will be open every day of the school holidays! There is something for all ages from rock climbing, laser tag, go karts and indoor skydiving. 

Workshops at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre - FREE school holiday workshop for children from 5 to 14 years on Friday the 20th of July! Explore models in three dimensions these school holidays at the Arts Centre. Be inspired by the work of exhibiting artist Paul Selwood and make your own intuitive decisions around surface, form and space in creating small paper sculptures. Bookings are essential. Hire a bike in Scone - Pedal up! Explore Scone on two wheels these school holidays. Bike hire is available at the Scone Visitor Information and Horse Centre, 7 days a week. Call 6540 1300 or click HERE more information.

Visit an alpaca farm – Take the kids to Towarri Alpaca farm these school holidays. Balls of wool, raw fleece and felt pieces will also be for sale at the farm for those interested. The stud is located on the New England Highway just north of Scone and visitors are welcome on weekends by appointment. Click HERE for contact details. 

Catch a flick at the Muswellbrook Cinema – Muswellbrook Cinema is situated inside Muswellbrook District Workers Club in the heart of the Upper Hunter. This new twin cinema has comfortable seating with extra leg room of course and the optional extra of the VIP Platinum seating. Perfect to catch the latest movies out during the school holidays. Cheese fondue for 2 or for 4 at Hunter Belle Cheese Café – One of the Upper Hunter’s favourite local products is Hunter Belle. They make all of their own cheeses, fudge and gelato right here in the Upper Hunter and currently on their winter menu is fondue made with their special recipe melted cheese! More info HERE.

Visit a local market – There are a number of markets on during the school holidays across the Upper Hunter including Denman Famers Market 7th July, Scone Christmas in July Market 14th July, and Muswellbrook Market, 8th July. More info HERE.

Explore a National Park or two - The Upper Hunter is encircled by magnificent National Parks, Nature Reserves, Wilderness Areas and State Forests. Each park features something unique; whether it be the world heritage listed Barrington Tops; the never-ending burning coal seam of Burning Mountain; the picturesque landscape within Goulburn River National Park; or the cedar brush and Washpools of Towarri National Park.
